Vitamin We #26: Finding Inspirations

From Toulouse, Art Central & the Space

(681 words)

Hi everyone!

Happy April!

Spring is coming in the Northern Hemisphere - flowers are blooming, bugs and worms are getting active, and birds are singing louder and louder 🐦

Where in your life do you need a rebirth and rejuvenation?

What seeds have you been planting that are ready to sprout? Were there weeds that needed to be pulled first?

Are there any parts of you that yearn to sing louder?

This past weekend, we’ve slowed down to receive and ponder art inspiration — and we would love to share it with you!

What Inspired Us Last Week:

👩‍❤️‍👨 Kelly & Pol @ Toulouse, France

So, we found ourselves in Toulouse, a ridiculously charming city that we used as an excuse to visit a dear friend. But guess what? We ended up having a blast just wandering around! The beauty of its streets, the kindness of its people, and that COLD wind guided us to sketch away in a cozy cafe, far from any worries and closer to ourselves.

Toulouse, you rock! We'll definitely be back for more artsy adventures!

👩‍🦰 Ponny @ Art Central 24’ Hong Kong 🖼️

With a mixture of visual arts, sculptures & installation projects, and performance arts, Art Central Hong Kong is a public-friendly art event showcasing the next generation of talent from Asia’s most innovative galleries and distinguished artists worldwide.

At the event, I overheard a young father telling his kindergartener, “Look! This one actually looks like what you drew at home🥰 Do you want to be an artist when you grow up?” At another booth, a gentleman was proudly promoting the art concept of his wife’s art pieces and the philosophical reflections she wanted to spark.

I believe engaging experiences like these are what bring arts into the dialogue with visitors of all ages and backgrounds, especially young families, that would inspire the next generation of artists👶

Like this one, A Sultry World, a work of performance art by Sunayama Norico, featuring a (real) human performer wearing a voluminous scarlet velvet dress 💃, which visitors are invited to touch and crawl under.

From the outside, the act of upskirting (in front of the public) is certainly bizarre. But once inside, visitors will find themselves enclosed in an intimate, tranquil, protective space infused with a lavender scent👃

What would happen when we blur the boundaries between public and private space?

How might the public perceive it differently if this performance was not featured in an art event but in the middle of a busy street, a library, or a central park?

Let’s Look UP ☝️

🌠What If the Nebula Can Sing? NASA’s Sonification of its Observed Objects

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes released three new sonifications of images and a new documentary about the project in Feb 2024.

Sonification is the process of translating data into sounds. This one observed the object Jellyfish Nebula🪼🌠, also known as IC 443. These data include X-rays from Chandra and the now-retired German ROSAT mission, radio data from NSF’s Very Large Array, and optical data from the Digitized Sky Survey.

😎 The “Great North American Eclipse” on 8th April 2024

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon🌑 passes between the Sun🌞 and Earth🌎, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk for around 4 minutes.

If you live in the US and along the eclipse track, aka the path of totality, tourists might start entering your neighborhood to see this total solar eclipse on 8th April! The last time it was visible in the US was 2017, which felt like the last century already when it comes to how our lives have changed!

Remember to protect your eyes, and don’t watch the sun directly! If you have pets🐕🐦, pay attention to them as they might react differently temporarily too!

May Q2 brings you the sharp clarity of what your heart desires next, and the patience to allow the process to unfold naturally!
