Vitamin We #21: What The World Needs Now?
More Love, More Beauty, More Hope
(1004 words)
Hello everybody!
If you are like us, I bet you’ve been very busy reflecting, wrapping up, or decluttering so you can travel lightweight to 2024 ✈️!
And if you are feeling stressed by the sudden rush to eliminate a 50-item to-do list in 3 days for tasks, projects, or open tabs that have been pending for more than three months ( or 6??!), you are not alone 🙈
And maybe, rather than a time to play catch up, it’s now the right timing to review the list and ask ourselves, “What belongs to my 2024?” and change the status for all items from “pending” to either “to start” or “deleted”!
Why add stress to yourself with a fake deadline? Wintertime is for hibernation 🧸🐿️ 🦔💤
*********
The world doesn’t need more stress and overwhelm.
What the world needs more of is BEAUTY, LOVE, HOPE.
Especially now.
And as creatives and artists, we are blessed AND positioned to share these gifts with the world!
If you’ve ever had a desire to create, you are a creative.
If you’ve ever had a deep yearning to make things beautiful and to express yourself in symbolic ways, you are an artist.
Yet, we can’t create magic with empty cups 🍵!
So whenever you feel rested enough, keep creating - for your soul, for your inner child, for your future self 🧘🏽
Speaking of HOPE, to wrap up this year at Vitamin We, we are featuring a story written by Michael Littig, our beloved mentor at HUG, where he shared a time of his life on how he found hope in the middle of nowhere ⛺❄️☕
Happy reading!

Feature Story
»This is where we feature personal stories from creative souls! Do you have one to share?
“One never knows when you will be that stranger.”
By Michael Littig - A creative who works at the intersection of innovation + the arts to create spaces of belonging
"Ten years ago, I spent a year researching shamanic traditions in Mongolia. I lived with various tribes, including the Tsaatan people, who have lived amongst reindeer at the edge of Siberia for over four thousand years.
To get to their home, we had to drive for two days with no sign of a road, and then travel on horseback for another two days. After living with them for a little under a week, we were on our way home and driving through the night when our car hit a rock and the gear shaft was torn in two.
We were in the middle of nowhere with no sign of water, in the deep of night, and it was bitterly cold.
In the Mongolian winter, you can most certainly freeze without fire to warm you in the middle of the night.
Luckily, in the distance we saw the faint light of a nomad family’s home. We approached them and requested to stay in their small ger (yurt). Even though we were strangers, they offered us their own bed, fed us food, and prepared tea.
It is said in Mongolia that if a stranger turns up at your tent, you will slaughter the last goat that provides the only milk for your children to feast your guests.
One never knows when you will be that stranger, turning up at night, cold and hungry, thirsty and in need of shelter.
As I watched that Mongolian family pour me a cup of tea, I thought to myself, these are the moments that allow us all to hope.”
» You took us there with your story, Michael! You are so right that sometimes, it takes just one kind gesture to rekindle hope - a spark of light that allows us to look forward to the future! Thank you for sharing such a powerful and beautiful story with us💌
Wise Words from …MUSIC 🎷🎵🎹
It just feels right to wrap up 2023 with a piece of music and a message that never gets old…
My secondary school English teacher used to hum the melody🎶 of this song or mimic the sound of a saxophone 🎷wherever she went 😂
What the World Needs Now Is Love (1966)
Songwriters: Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David
Singers: First recorded and made popular by Jackie DeShannon, released on April 15, 1965. The above version was sung by Dionne Warwick.
Lyrics:
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No not just for some, but for everyone
Lord, we don't need another mountain
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross
Enough to last 'til the end of time
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, but for everyone
Lord, we don't need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheatfields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh listen, Lord, if you want to know
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, oh, but just for every, every, everyone
